When East meets West

Located at the ground floor of a century-old corner shophouse at the bustling Jalan Sultan in Kuala Lumpur, Leaf & Co offers a wide array of fusion cuisines. The interior of the cafe mirrors the aesthetic of boutique hotel Mingle above, which prioritises preservation over modern design.

“At first, our menu offered only Western food, but many customers said they would like Asian cuisine to be served as well. So, we fused both cuisines together,” says Hermes Mah, CEO of Food Voyager Holdings Sdn Bhd which owns the business.

The establishment’s servings are generous, and he advises those with smaller appetites to share their meals with a friend.

Those craving comfort food can try the fish and chips while those who are in the mood for local flavours can opt for the beef rendang and chicken satay. Diners seeking the best of both worlds will find satisfaction in the buttermilk fried chicken or Vietnamese Banh Mi or crowd favourite, the spaghetti with crispy chicken chop — al dente spaghetti paired with a creamy Asian pesto sauce (flavoured with garlic and turmeric) served with a generous side of deep-fried chicken chop.

To accompany your choice of food, try the handcrafted non-alcoholic mojito that comes with an ice popsicle offering a refreshing shot for a hot fternoon, or, on cooler days, treat yourself to the Belgium Dark Chocolate (80%) drink that comes with a bowl of marshmallows to offset the beverage’s bitter taste.

Of course, you could not step into Leaf & Co and not indulge in a cup of tea.

“We got the name Leaf & Co from an abbreviation of tea leaves and coffee. Our tea is carefully sourced from various countries so we always recommend our customers to give our selections a try,” Mah explains.

If you’re looking for something soothing, he recommends the Lavender Green Tea which will leave your breath smelling like lavender for the next few hours!
